'East & West coast non-profits partner to provide a therapeutic outlet to hospitalized children through art and songwriting. Songs and artwork were inspired by outer space, and the children were rewarded with a surprise debut aboard the International Space Station. “OTHER SIDE” to be released July 2021 For nearly 11 years, Seattle-based non-profit Melodic Caring Project (MCP) has been bringing personalized live streamed music performances to hospitalized children and teens all over the globe from stages and music venues in and around the greater Seattle area. Artists MCP has worked with include: Hozier, Coldplay, Andra Day, Brandi Carlisle, Jason Mraz, Rachel Platten, Lyndsey Sterling, NEEDTOBREATHE, David Gray, David Crosby and hundreds more! The Melodic Caring Project creates a 5-camera live switched production that is streamed to kids in their hospital rooms across the U.S. and around the world. The kids become the rockSTARS! During the concerts the artists call the kids out by first name and dedicate songs to them making it a truly unique, powerful and personal experience for the kids and their families, providing hope and connection when it is needed most. Unlike other complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) programs, the Melodic Caring Project’s model meets a real and pressing need in the market with its new innovative approach offering ease, accessibility and comfort to those suffering from serious illness or injury, especially those quarantined and/or suffering from immunodeficiency. When the 2020 pandemic hit and the world put live concerts on an indefinite hold, MCP, a 501c3 charity, had to take a new approach to their programming. As an organization that was created specifically to care for kids in quarantine, MCP was perfectly suited to adapt to the challenges of isolation created by COVID19. Because of their unique skillset, MCP had no problem putting together a revised program utilizing their same technology. Born out of this need for change was the new personal and intimate series titled MCPconnects. MCPconnects launched with very personal and up-close private Zoom interviews with famous musicians, actors, Broadway performers and even an Astronaut! This included an array of guest participants including Andy Grammar, Allen Stone, Fitz and the Tantrums, American Authors, Weird Al, American Idol’s Maddie Poppe, Andra Day, and Amos Lee. The show even went International with Folk artists from Syria, Sweden, Greece, and even an innovative band from The Congo called Fulu Miziki who made their outfits and instruments from dumpster diving and garbage dumps. Each guest gave shoutouts and messages of encouragement to kids watching from their hospital and home care rooms. Through the power of Zoom, Melodic Caring allowed the rockSTARS to entered the homes and lives of amazing people. The rockSTARS were able to ask questions, request songs or even ask Astronaut Nicole Stott if she played video games while in outer space. During her episode Nicole shared with us the incredible work being done by her Florida based 501(c)3 not-for-profit Space for Art Foundation, which allows kids to create artwork that is printed on space suits making their way to the International Space Station (ISS) for the astronauts to wear! Her foundation was formed to develop, implement and facilitate space inspired art therapy programs, scholarships, exhibits, and research. The Space for Art Foundation is the home of The Spacesuit Art Project, Postcards to Space, the Space for Art Exhibits and more - all projects uniting children in hospitals and refugee centers around the world through the awe and wonder of space exploration and the healing power of art! Spaceforartfoundation.org Inspired by her incredible work, the Melodic Caring team developed the idea of a therapeutic music program allowing hospitalized kids from around the World to express themselves through creating artwork and writing original songs inspired by space. They discussed the concept with Nicole and a beautiful partnership was born. A select group of kids joined the program and spent a 10-month period during their treatments to develop and record their songs using Google Meets and the internet as their correspondence. The program ended up garnering 5 songs and a very special video that highlighted each of the songs. Through the efforts of Nicole and Space for Art, those songs made their way and debuted aboard the International Space Station.'
